Ten boroughs, ten searches

Someone in Stockport searches "electrician Stockport", and someone in Didsbury searches Didsbury. Greater Manchester is a set of towns that happen to share a city, and the trades that rank here are the ones that name Sale, Altrincham, Chorlton, Prestwich, Heaton Moor and the rest, not the ones that say "Manchester and surrounding areas".

A city rebuilding itself

Ancoats, Salford Quays, the city centre and the corridor out to MediaCity are full of new flats and the businesses that serve them: cleaners, cafés, letting agents, trades doing fit-outs. The customer there is younger, on a phone, and reads reviews before anything else. The site needs those reviews on the page.

Should I say Manchester or my town?

Your town first, Manchester second. The home page can say Greater Manchester; the service and contact pages name Stockport, Sale, Bolton or wherever you are, because that is what people type.
